I started the A Massage Retreat business in 2005 after completing my schooling at the Ann Arbor Institute of Massage Therapy. After completing this program I immediately noticed that my new career was creating lifelong change in the clients I worked on. Their happiness and well being proved that my new profession was a career path that would enlighten my spirits and allow me the chance to aid others. This enlightenment led me to continue my educational needs to ensure I could provide services to all patients in the future. These educational pursuits have enabled me to obtain licenses in lymphatic drainage massage, cancer patient massage, and reiki. I wanted a purpose and massage therapy was one of the only things other then exercise that made me feel better and truly healthier inside and out.
In September of 2005 after a trip to Vermont I discovered my true calling. I liked
the clean, natural, and healthy beauty of Vermont and I wanted others to feel
like I did, like they just came back from a relaxing retreat.
I know massage
therapy is the best vehicle I could give to anyone interested in health.
That’s
how I came up with the name, “A Massage Retreat”.
I did some soul searching and felt strongly about the therapeutic effects of massage therapy. These therapeutic effects helped me increase my mental and physical energy and this energy could be passed on through my touch. I knew my passion for helping others would provide these positive results for their ailments so I compassionately provide these services to all my patients.
I started at the Ann Arbor Institute of Massage Therapy the same month I returned from Vermont. It felt so right! The benefits of massage were definitely real. The medical community has validated the effectiveness of massage therapy. Massage therapists work in major hospitals including the University of Michigan hospital in Ann Arbor, Michigan. People now know that massage therapy isn't just for the rich and pampering types anymore! It is now medically proven to help the body naturally.
I graduated in September of 2006 and passed the National Certification Board in Massage Therapy and Bodywork in November of that same year. I have continued my massage therapy education by obtaining certification in the following modalities; manual lymphatic drainage, oncology massage, reiki, neuromuscular therapy, myofascial, craniosacral, and Belavi facelift massage. I started working at Beaumont hospital in Royal Oak in 2007 staying there until June of 2009 when I accepted the position as Massage Therapy Program Director for the University of Michigan. This position is very satisfying to me but my real passion is providing services to individuals in my own massage suite.
I started my own business as a massage therapist and since then haven’t been happier.
A client stated,” How can you tell that was bothering me, I didn't tell you about that, it’s an old injury that never went away”. My client just accepted that this was how it was suppose to feel; stiff, restricted and with a loss of full use. Massage can break up scar tissue and allow healing oxygen and nutritional blood into that dense scarred space and increase the range of motion. Being flexible feels good, we have just forgotten how good it feels to move our joints to their full range of motion.
What makes me different from other massage therapists is my training and intent. I want you to be truly cared for every time you come to see me. I work with each client toward their optimal health goal. I know this hour of your time is very precious and I'm going to do everything I can to help you feel less anxious, physically feel healthier and spiritually allow yourself to connect body and mind and feel at peace within. Massage therapy is a wonderful tool to integrate into your healthy, natural lifestyle. I have clients that come to me for many reasons; tight achy shoulders and neck, pain in their hips, and to help calm them so they can sleep through the night. Stress is becoming our worst enemy: the long hours, pressure with deadlines, illness, depression, postural dysfunctions from the many hours in front of a computer or behind the wheel sitting in traffic.
Everyone deserves a retreat and massage therapy is the perfect, easiest, and best feeling way to get there, in only an hour you are transformed. You don’t need to go to Vermont to feel the benefits all you need is an hour in my hands!
